Belated Color Throwdown 176 Card Box and Note Cards

Hello fellow papercrafters and stampers!

I have a project to share with you that took several days to complete, inspired by the Color Throwdown Challenge #176. I did not know that the projects need to be linked to that site by the Sunday following each challenge, so I missed the deadline by 2 days. Now I know! :) I don't think I would have made it even if I knew, to be honest. I am a slow crafter, and 4 days just doesn't cut it!

Here is my card box:

I made this set for my friend April, who is a super great gal, with a take no prisoner's attitude! She loves country and rock n roll, and is sort of a gypsy spirit. She can sing karaoke like you would not believe! She's really cool! :)

So I tried to make the box reflect my feelings for her by using SU stamp sets True Friend and Charming. They went together really well, I have to admit.

The Soft Sky dsp was stamped randomly with the medallions from True Friend, and the script stamp from Charming, all in Chocolate Chip ink. I also added direct ink-to-paper distressing to all of the edges, layers, and elements with Chocolate Chip ink.

I added a little bit of fun sewing to the sentiment label, but am not too happy with it. I need more practice to look a little more precise-yet-random. ha!

I found these Velcro fastener stickers at Hobby Lobby for like a buck, and thought they'd be great on these card boxes. I was right! LOVE them!

Here is a shot of the note cards I created. The cards come together so easily after creating the box. It's like, all the hard work is done once the box is designed so all you have to do is match the cards to the box. It just flows freely.

Here are close-ups of each note card.

They each measure 3-1/2 by 4-1/4 inches.

PPA127 Sketch and CR84FN46 Color Challenges

Hey there! Happy Tuesday!

I had some time to create again today, and found two challenges that inspired me greatly!

The Pal's Paper Art's sketch challenge, and the CR84FN color challenge!

I really enjoyed breaking out my watercoloring brush and classic inks for this image from 'On the Grow' by Stampin' Up!. It is so pretty, and this is the first time I have inked it. (Like I said previously, it's been almost a year since I felt crafty).

I think this image and the papers are perfect together. Here is a close-up shot:

Both of the challenges end very soon, so off I go to get them linked!

Hello! Bet you are surprised to see me again!

I wanted to pop in and share another card box I created for another friend of mine. I actually made this box during the first week of January, before the beautiful blue one in the last post.

A picture of the open box is handy, since I forgot last time! This one was filled with single layer, stamped 'Congratulations' note cards. My friend sells homes, and needed some cards to send to clients. (I forgot to get pics of the cards before I mailed it!!)

A New Creation!

Well, if anyone has been missing me, you just wouldn't know it. ha!

I have not crafted ANYTHING in a year! Guess I was totally uninspired or just plain burned out! I have, though, been keeping an eye on the online crafty goodness, and occasionally popped in with a comment, or tryed to win blog candy or contests like PTI each month. I just could not bring myself to pick up the scissors or glue!

Until now!!

The Pal's Paper Arts blog challenge LAST WEEK was a beautiful color combo, which suited my project just fine! (I missed the deadline for posting though) I wanted to make a friend of mine a box of note cards because she had done me a HUGE favor. And here it is!!

The box was crafted from a tutorial from Betsy Veldman, of PTI royalty. She had posted the instructions on her blog HERE if you want to try it. It is super easy, and you can decorate to your hearts content!!

I made six note cards to include inside, all matching the box, of course! It was so fun and easy to do! I just made lots of stamped flowers and cut them out, stamped the sentiments and matted each one and added some sewing, and then cut 6 of the Not Quite Navy dsp rectangles, matted and stitched them. Then I just arranged each one differently, and added ribbon here and there!

It took much less time to make the cards than the box, for sure! :)

Can you tell I was totally absorbed in creativity?

The 'I'm Praying for You' card is my favorite of the bunch! But they all turned out great! Even my husband was impressed, and that is not easy to do!

Each note card measures 3-1/2 by 4-7/8 inches. You can't tell from any of the pictures, but I sprayed the box and cards all over with white Smooch Spritz! They shimmer and shine like you would not believe! I love that stuff!!

My friend absolutely loved this gift, and I am not sure if she will be able to send the cards or not. But I hope so, share the love I say!

I will surely be making many more of these gifts for my family and friends. I already have a list of gals I know, who would love them! And tons of color combos and stamp sets in mind!

D2D Kaela's Spring Bouquet Love Card

Howdy!

It's been about a month and a half since I created a card or even posted on this blog, so bare with me as I try to get it done right now.

I managed to create a card this week, and I used this sweet image from Designed2Delight called 'Kaela's Spring Bouquet'. It is gorgeous!

One thing I love most about creating with digital stamps is the ability to make them any size you want. You can make huge, card sized flowers, or tiny little background patterns out of any image! It's so fun!

The sentiment is from Sweet n Sassy stamps, the papers are Cosmo Cricket's Pixie-lisious. The first time using each! The ribbon is PTI's Plum Pudding. The flowers are watercolored with SU inks and an aqua brush.

My sewing is terrible, and I actually used some ribbon to cover up a very bad goof on the vertical panel! It's all good now! LOL!

Okay, I guess that sums it up!

I hope you enjoyed my creation, and I really appreciate you stopping by my neglected blog! I will try to squeeze in some crafting more often! I promise!

D2D Doodle Cake Birthday Card

Hey!

I created this card for the February D2D Potluck Game at PaperCraftPlanet this weekend. The card measures 5-1/2 inches square, and is composed of crafty ingredients chosen by the D2D group members. I used 8 out of the 10 suggested items. It was a lot of fun!

We plan to host another Designed2Delight party next month also! So watch for that announcement as we get closer to March!

February Delightfully Digital Party Challenge!

Hello! I hope you have all had a chance to jump over to the Designed2Delight CDAC group for the Delightfully Digital Party this weekend! Here is the card I created for the Digital Challenge. This month we are supposed to create our own digital patterned paper with any D2D digi. I used the current freebie from Faith's progressive challenge 'Big Heart' and a new digi 'Kitty's Big Heart'.

Here is a look at my homemade digital paper before I colored it:

Not too good! When I created the paper using pixlr.com, the images were sharp, and they were supposed to be a Rose Red color. But when I printed them out on my white cardstock they were all blurry and more of a Rich Razzleberry color. I tried and tried to get them the way I wanted, but my printer seemed to think they looked great this way! There was a lot of COPY, PASTE, COPY, PASTE, COPY, PASTE, COPY, PASTE!!

So here is a picture after I added some Razzleberry and Regal Rose watercoloring to the images:

Much better, I'd say! So I went with the Razzleberry, Regal Rose, and Going Grey color scheme, because I knew the cat had to be gray!

That kitty is super cute! Hey! He's got my ribbon! Get back here cat! I NEED that!!

Wonderful Royal Blossom

Hello crafters!

Jumping in with a card I created just a moment ago!

I am entering it in the Mojo Monday Sketch challenge for the week, and amazingly, it took only minutes to create! Usually cards can take me hours to make, so you know this is a great mojo making sketch!

The flower is a digital stamp from Designed2Delight called 'Royal Blossom'. It comes in the 'Princess Wishes' birthday set. I printed the image out twice on different papers from the latest Stampin' Up! hostess paper pack. I cut them out with my snips and layered them together. The background is an acetate sheet from SU, and the trim is from WalMart. The sentiment stamp is PTI's Friends Til' The End set.

Alrighty then...off I go!

Stampin' Celebration Challenge 35

Hey there!

Popping in with a quick post about a card for the Stampin' Celebration Challenge #35. This is a new-to-me challenge, and I was inspired by the photos and the fact that the design team uses Stampin' Up products for their fabulous inspirational designs. I need some good inspiration to use all of my SU stuff!! AND the fact that they are having some BLOG CANDY certainly does not hurt either!! :)

The inspiration photo's are all about a party! Looks like a birthday party with all of the bright colors and ballons! I see some cake too!

Here is what I was able to come up with:

I was not sure if I had to use all SU products to play in this challenge, but I thought I'd be better off safe than sorry! And I realized that I had no SU stamps of balloons. What's a girl to do? (I added it to my wish list!)

I remembered my stamp set 'Happy Moments', and used the presents because the cake stamp looked too girly. I went with polka dots to replace the lack of balloons!

I grabbed Pacific Point and Pumpkin Pie papers, Tangerine Tango and Pacific Point cardstocks, my paper piercer and pad, a Pumpkin Pie corduroy button, some Pacific Point ribbon, and a needle and thread. I added some embossed dots with my cuttlebug, and some dabs of color with a stipple brush. I colored the image with SU classic inks and a waterbrush.

I wanted to sew the three panels, but was running short on time. It looks a little bare to me now! But we will call it 'clean and simple'!! :)

D2D Big Surprise Bear Get Well Card

Hello!

Happy Tuesday!

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Delightfully Digital Challenge and party this last weekend! I had fun talking with all of you, and checking out the creativity! I can't wait to do it again next month! It really is a lot of fun giving away free digital stamps!!

I made this card for my neighbor, who requested a bright and cheery card for her grandmother who had hip replacement surgery recently. She also wanted the card to convey her sympathy and well wishes.

I chose the D2D digi 'Big Surprise Bear' because he looks so shy and concerned, like we would feel visiting someone in the hospital. And he brought flowers too! :)

I watercolored him with SU! markers and a water brush, then popped up a second layer for poshness!

I left the inside blank so that my neighbor could fill it with love and get well wishes.

She loved it! I hope her grandmother does too!

Delightfully Digital Challenge - Combining Images

Hello everyone, and Thank You for joining us for the Delightfully Digital Party this weekend!

If you have not heard yet, Designed2Delight is throwing a party at both the Crafter's Digital Art Center, and the Paper Craft Planet group sites! There is a digital challenge, a fun game, and a couple more ways to win some new Valentine's Day digi's! Come and join us Friday through Sunday, January 9th!

Okay, I admit it, I am a beginner. I do not have any expensive or fancy software on my computer. I have no clue how to use them either. I usually use digital stamps 'as is', only resizing them in 'windows photo gallery' as I print them. So when I decided to do this digital challenge, I had to get with the program, and fast!! LOL! I took it easy on myself though, and combined the cute image 'Be Mine Bear' with a sentiment image from the digi set 'Love A Latte'.

Baby steps, ladies! Baby steps!

To combine the images, I used a FREE and EASY online photo editing website called pixlr.com.

Here is how I added a portion of the sentiment to the digital stamp:

Go to pixlr.com; on the home page choose 'Open image from computer'. Find your first image in the window provided, following the prompts. For me it was the sentiment digi. Be sure to choose PNG files, which have a transparent background.
Click on 'FILE' on the upper left of screen, then click on 'OPEN IMAGE' to choose your 2nd image in the window provided, for me it was the 'Be Mine Bear'.
Click on the first image window to bring it to the front, select the 'CROP' tool from the top of the panel on the left hand side of the screen. Click and drag to create a rectangle around the portion of the sentiment you want to keep. For me, I kept the 'Love You' from the sentiment 'Love You A Latte'.
Click on 'EDIT' on the upper left of screen, and choose 'SELECT ALL' which will complete the crop with a blinking border. (I am not sure if that is the right way to do it - but it worked for me!)
Click on 'Edit' again, choosing 'COPY' then
Click on the second image window to bring it to the front. Click on 'EDIT' and then 'PASTE' to place the sentiment on the image.
Select the 'MOVE TOOL' from the top of the panel on the left hand side of the screen, then click on the sentiment and drag for placement on the image.
IF THE SENTIMENT IS TOO BIG click on 'EDIT' and then 'UNDO' to remove it from the image. Click on the sentiment window to bring it forward again, then click on 'IMAGE' on the upper left hand side of screen, and select 'IMAGE SIZE' to adjust as desired. Then, click on 'EDIT', 'SELECT ALL' then 'EDIT', 'COPY'.
Click on the 2nd image window, and click 'EDIT' and 'PASTE'. Click on the sentiment and drag it where you want it again. (*You may need to adjust, select all, copy, bring 2nd image forward, paste, move, and undo - several times to get the size just right.)
Then be sure to save your new image by clicking on 'FILE' on the upper left of screen, then 'SAVE'. A window will pop up where you can change the name of your image and choose what kind of file it will be. Then another window will pop up asking you where to save it. Follow the prompts. Save your new sentiment digi the same way.
THEN PRINT!!

I hope these steps help you. Play around with a few images, and practice putting them together. It was easier than I thought it would be, for sure!!

Some Christmas Cards!

Hello!

Just sharing some snapshots of Christmas cards I created this weekend for family and friends. These were fairly quick and easy, and without a lot of 3D for mailing purposes. It can get spendy mailing chunky cards! Although, these are square and did require the additional surcharge for postage.

Sorry about the messy craft space there as well! I've been busy with Christmas prep (as we all are) and have not cleaned things up much.

Inside each card is a simple square of white cardstock for personal messages, as these are only 4 inches square.

Designed2Delight Poppy Thank You Card

Hey!

I took a big step away from my Christmas cards, which I actually had to shove to the side, to create this wonderful Thank You card. The red and green was getting to me, and I needed a bright D2D creation to kick in my mojo. I think the bold combo of Concord Crush, Pear Pizzazz, and Peach Parfait was quite a trip in the opposite direction, don't you? Aaahhh, I feel much better!! :)

This is the 'Poppy' digi from the 'Beautiful Life' set, available at Designed2Delight Digital Stamps.

I LOVE it!! Can't you tell? I printed it out to 5 x 3.5 inches directly on patterned paper, and cut out the images.

Those are scraps from creating the card front, and I mirrored the sewing from the card front inside to create some balance.

Alrighty, that's all I have for today!

I hope you are not sick of Christmas preparations yet! I am almost done shopping, and my cards are well, almost finished! LOL! I need about 10 more, then to get them in the mail on time....yikes! I have not even started baking treats yet, and I have a list a mile long 'to-do' still.

Hello again! Welcome back to another Warm & Cozy Winter Recipe!

Today's recipe is a fairly common one, with many variations available. But this one is the BEST!

No Bake Chocolate Drops

(from my mom, who got it from her mom, who may or may not have added her own touch)

ingredients:

1/2 c. butter

1/2 c. milk

2 c. sugar

4 Tbsp. cocoa

3/4 c. peanut butter

1 tsp. vanilla

1/2 c. coconut

3-1/2 c. oatmeal

instructions:

In large saucepan melt butter; add milk and sugar. Heat and stir until sugar is dissolved. Let boil 2 minutes then reduce heat to low. Stir in cocoa and peanut butter until smooth. Add vanilla, coconut and oatmeal, mix well. Remove from heat and drop by rounded tablespoonfuls onto waxed paper working quickly before mixture cools and dries too much to form cookies.

Makes 48

I like to use this recipe during the Christmas season because there is no baking involved, and it's more like fudge than cookies. I usually make several types of holiday cookies, and this one fits right on the plate next to them! (And does not last long!)

I have seen this recipe on many websites and cookbooks, but most do not call for the peanut butter. It makes a world of difference to add it! Yum!

Today's recipe is FANTASTIC! Grab a pen and paper, you are gonna want this one. It is THE favorite of my kids and husband!

Tex-Mex Chicken and Rice Casserole

(from the Better Homes and Gardens website)

prep time: 20 minutes, bake: 25 minutes

ingredients:

1/2 cup chopped onion (1 medium)

1 Tbsp. olive oil

1 6.9 ounce package chicken flavored rice and vermicelli mix

1 14 ounce can chicken broth

2 cups water

2 cups chopped cooked chicken or turkey

1 cup chopped seeded tomatoes (2 medium)

3 Tbsp. canned diced green chile pappers

1 tsp. dried basil, crushed

1-1/2 tsp. chili powder

1/8 tsp. cumin

1/8 tsp. black pepper

1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese (2 ounces)

preparation:

1. In a medium saucepan cook onion in hot oil over medium heat until tender. Stir in rice and vermicelli mix (including seasoning packet); cook and stir for 2 minutes.Stir in broth and water. Bring to boiling; reduce heat. Cover and simmer for 20 minutes (liquid will not be fully absorbed).

2. Transfer the rice mixture to a large bowl. Stir in chicken, tomatoes, chile peppers, basil, cumin, chili powder, and black pepper. Transfer to a 2 quart casserole dish.

3. Bake, covered, in a 425F ove rfor 25 minutes. Sprinkle with cheese. Let stand 5 minutes before serving. Makes 6 servings.

Make Ahead Directions:

Prepare as above through step 1. Cover and chill for up to 24 hours. Bake, covered, in a 425F oven about 40 minutes, or until heated through. Uncover and sprinkle with cheese. Let stand 5 minutes before serving.

Honestly, you can skip the baking time on this one for a faster meal, but the baking does help meld the flavors together nicely. I always add way more cheese than the recipe calls for, and sometimes we use this as burrito filling along with lettuce and sour cream, in soft flour tortillas. It is so good!

And, did I mention cheap? This meal will cost you about $7.oo to make, for the chicken, rice mix, broth, and veggies. Most of us have an entire cupboard of spices already, so we get off easy there, and get to put them to good use!

It's a keeper! Give it a try!

Welcome back to another day of fantastic food!

Today I have a main-dish, cold salad for you to try. It utilizes the leftover turkey from Thanksgiving or Christmas, so that is good for the wallet! :) And the stomach!

Turkey Almond Salad

(old, well worn newspaper clipping)

ingredients:

3 c. cooked and cubed leftover turkey

2 c. shredded cabbage

3/4 c. diced celery

1/4 c. sliced green onions

1-1/2 c. chow mein noodles

1/2 c. slivered almonds, toasted

2 Tbsp. sesame seeds, toasted

dressing:

2/3 c. salad dressing or mayonnaise

1 Tbsp. milk

2 tsp. prepared mustard

1-1/2 tsp. sugar

1/2 tsp. salt

1/4 tsp pepper

preparations:

In a large bowl, toss together turkey, cabbage, celery, onions. In another bowl, combine dressing ingredients. Pour over turkey mixture. Chill for several hours. Just before serving, add the chow mein noodles, almonds, and sesame seads; toss to mix. Makes 6 servings.

This salad is crunchy, sweet and salty! And, I assume, healthy!

Don't you love recipes that are easy and inexpensive, but pack a punch!

You are going to love this super easy, super cheap, and absolutely beautiful Coconut Pie!

Enjoy!

Easy Coconut Pie

(from my mom, origin unknown)

ingredients:

2 c. milk

1/4 c. margarine, softened

4 eggs

3/4 c. sugar

1/2 c. Buisquick Original baking mix

1-1/2 tsp. vanilla

1 c. flaked or shredded coconut

instructions:

1. Heat oven to 350F. Grease glass pie plate, 9 or 10 inch.

2. Stir all ingredients with fork until blended. Pour into pie plate.

3. Bake 50 to 55 minutes or until golden brown and knife inserted in center comes out clean. Refrigerate any remaining pie.

Makes own crust. Top with whip cream.

Wow, right? Super easy to put together, and boy, is it delicious! I love this pie, as does my husband, my oldest son, my father-in-law, and so on!! It does not get any better than this!

Warm & Cozy Winter Recipes {Day 8}

Happy Wednesday!

Here in Washington state we are enjoying an abundunce of early snowfall, building snowmen, and having snowball fights! We are running low on cocoa and cidar, but we have our wood stove to keep us warm through the night! No worries! :)

The next recipe on the roster will accompany the hot cocoa and cider perfectly!

Cinnamon Cream Cheese Squares

(newspaper clipping)

ingredients:

2 tubes (8 ounce each) refrigerated cresent rolls

2 packages (8 ounce each) cream cheese, softened

1-1/2 c. sugar, divided

1 tsp. vanilla extract

1/4 c. butter or margarine, melted

1 tsp. cinnamon

preparation:

Unroll one tube of dough and place in a lightly greased 13 x 9 x 2 inch baking pan. Seal seams and perforations; set aside. In a mixing bowl, beat cream cheese, 1 cup sugar and vanilla until smooth. Spread over dough. Unroll remaining tube of dough and place over cream cheese mixture, sretching to fit. Brush butter evenly over top; sprinkle with cinnamon and remaining sugar. Bake at 350F for 30 minutes or until done. Cool; cut into small squares. Makes about 3 dozen.

How easy it that? And delicious too! Inexpensive? Oh yes! Perfect!

Today's recipe is a 'stay in your pajamas all day' kind of comfort food! Enjoy!

Cheddar Ham Chowder

(from old magazine clipping)

ingredients:

2 c. water

2 c. cubed peeled potatoes

1/2 c. sliced carrots

1/2 c. sliced celery

1/4 c. chopped onion

1 tsp. salt

1/4 tsp. pepper

1/4 c. butter or margarine

1/4 c. flour

2 c. milk

2 c. (8 ounces) shredded sharp cheddar cheese

1 can (16 ounces) whole kernel corn, drained

1-1/2 c. cubed fully cooked ham

preparation:

In a large saucepan, bring water, potatoes, carrots, celery, onion, salt and papper to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 8 to 10 minutes or until vegetables are just tender. Remove from the heat; do not drain. Meanwhile, in a medium saucepan, melt the butter. Blend in flour. Add the milk all at once; cook and stir until thickened and bubbly. Add cheese and stir until melted. Stir into the undrained vegetables; return large saucepan to the heat. Add corn and ham; heat through, stirring occasionally. Makes 6-8 servings. (2 quarts)

What I love most about this recipe is how easy it is. You have a pot of heart warming chowder in no time at all, and don't forget the cornbread muffins! I always double this recipe to feed my hoard of men! :)

This is a great recipe to have when you need to use up all the left over ham from Thanksgiving or Christmas.

Today's recipe is perfect to fill little 4 ounce mason jars and decorate with paper crafting supplies, to give as gifts to the 'ice cream lovers' in your life!

Praline Sunday Topping

(from an old country life magazine)

ingredients:

1/4 c. butter or margarine

1-1/4 c. packed brown sugar

16 large marshmellows

2 Tbsp. light corn syrup

dash salt

1 c. evaporated milk

1/2 c. chopped pecans, toasted

1 tsp. vanilla extract

Ice Cream

preparation:

Melt butter in a saucepan. Add brown sugar, marshmellows, corn syrup and salt. Cook and stir over low heat until marshmellows are melted and mixture comes to a boil. Boil for 1 minute. Remove from heat; cool 5 minutes. Stir in evaporated milk, pecans and vanilla; mix well. Serve warm or cold over ice cream. Store in refrigerator. Makes 2-1/2 cups.

This topping looks gorgeous in little jars, and is oh-so-yummy on ice cream! If you want to get in good with your father-in-law, I highly recommend seving this to him with a slice of pie! :)

Are you enjoying these great finds? Sometimes it is so hard to figure out what's for dinner, so I know first hand how exciting it can be to have something new! I hope these recipes will inspire you!

Sweet Cherrity Pie

(another magazine clipping from way back!)

ingredients:

1 c. all purpose flour

1/2 to 1 cup finely chopped nuts

1/4 c. packed brown sugar

1/2 c. cold butter or margarine

1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened

1 c. confectioners' sugar

1/2 tsp. almond extract

1 c. whipping cream, whipped

1 can (21 ounces) cherry pie filling

preparation:

Combine flour, nuts and brown sugar in a small bowl; cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Transfer to a 13-in. x 9-in. x 2-in. baking pan. Bake at 375F for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown, stirring once. Reserve 1/2 cup of crumb mixture for topping. Using a spoon, firmly press remaining crumbs into an ungreased 9-in. pie plate; chill. In a mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese, confectioners' sugar and extract until smooth. Spread over crust. Fold the whipped cream into the cherry pie filling; spoon over cream cheese layer. Sprinkle with reserved crumbs. Refridgerate 1-2 hours before serving.

Yum!

This is a great pie for the holidays! It is so creamy and rich! No one will refuse a slice!

I do not know why people buy prepared pies at the grocery store, when homemade is so much better tasting, easy to prepare, and extremely cheaper!

You will need a large bowl of vanilla ice cream for Day 6's recipe! :)

I'm back again!

Today's recipe is a potatoe side-dish which goes perfectly with chicken, pork, or beef. We love potatoes here at my house, especially with cheese! Here goes:

Party Potatoes

(cut from some old magazine)

ingregients:

8 large potatoes, peeled

2 c. (16 ounces) sour cream

1/4 c. butter or margarine, melted

1 can (10-3/4 ounces) condensed cream of celery or cream of mushroom soup, undiluted

1-1/2 c. (6 ounces) shredded sharp cheddar cheese

preparation:

Thinly slice or cube potatoes; place in a large saucepan and cover with water. Bring to boil; cover and cook until tender, about 15-20 minutes. Drain and cool completely. Place the potatoes in a greased 3-qt. baking dish; add remaining ingredients. Cover and bake at 350F for 50 minutes. Uncover; bake 10 minutes longer or until bubbly. Makes 6-8 servings

One thing I do with this recipe is skip the cooling of the potatoes. After the potatoes are through boiling, I drain them and add them to the casserole dish immediately. Then, I bake them for about 30 minutes covered; then 10 minutes uncovered. Why wait? We're hungry!

Also, try 'fat free' sour cream, soup and cheese if you are worried about all the calories. It still turns out rich and creamy! :)

I hope you give this one a try. It is a very tasty, economical recipe, which can become a staple in your arsenal!

Alrighty, I finished my card using the first free Designed2Delight digital stamp of December! This gorgeous Poinsettia stamp was so fun to work with and color! I could not help but try to create a white flower with touches of pink. You know the ones, right? They are so pretty!

I printed the image out 3 times on watercolor paper to create the three layers of the flower. I added some very watered down and soft touches of SU!'s Blushing Bride to the petals, and used Pear Pizzazz for the leaves and flower center.

The black outline of the image inspired the black card base, sentiment, and button thread. It adds a lot of contrast in real life.

Warm & Cozy Winter Recipes {Day 3}

Welcome back to another day of my most favorite recipes!

I hope you will get a chance to use these wonderful food ideas, and when you do, be sure to let me know how much you loved them! Today's recipe is the ultimate Winter comfort food!

Crock Pot Pear Crisp

(given to me at my local fuit orchard)

ingredients:

4 ripe pears

1/2 c. brown sugar

1/4 c. white sugar

1/2 stick butter, unsalted, room temperature

1 tsp. cinnamon

1 tsp. vanilla extract

1 handful of oats, about 1 cup

preparation:

Cream the butter and sugars in a mixing bowl. Add vanilla and cinnamon, mix well. Add oats and mix again, put aside. Peel pears and dice into 1 inch cubes, place in crock pot. Evenly top with oat mixture. Set the crock pot to LOW and cook for 4 hours. Best served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Love the crisp? You can easily double the recipe for company!

What I love about this recipe is that you prepare it before dinner, and the whole house smells so yummy! The kids clean their plates so they can have dessert! It is SO delicious!

Like I said...no 'diet' food here! LOL! No one should deny themselves fresh and exciting food! Just watch your portions, and maybe do a few crunches before hand! :)

I think I should mention here that NONE of the recipes posted on this blog can be considered 'diet' food! LOL!

Here we go:

Sweet Cornbread Muffins

(swiped from the wrapper of a 10lb. bag of sugar years ago)

ingredients:

1-1/2 c. flour

2/3 c. sugar

1/2 c. corn meal

1 Tbsp. baking podwer

1/2 tsp. salt

1-1/4 c. milk

2 eggs, beaten

1/3 c. oil

3 Tbsp. butter, melted

instructions:

350F; Grease or paper line 18 muffin cups. Mix all dry ingredients; mix all wet ingredients, then combine until moistened. Fill cups 2/3 full, bake 18 to 20 minutes

For Cornbread:

Pour batter into a greased 8 inch square or round pan. Bake 35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.

This is my MOST FAVORITE cornbread recipe in the world! I will never use another! It is cake-like and sweet. It melts in your mouth, it's so good! My entire family loves it! Whenever I make homemade soup, stew, or casseroles, I serve this cornbread with butter and honey. And, whenever we are having company over for dinner, my husband asks me if I am making cornbread!

You've got the recipe now, go try it! I promise, you will throw away all of your old ones!

Hello you!

It's the first day of December. It's snowing. There is Christmas music on the radio. The fire is crackling in the wood stove. It's nice and cozy inside. So what's a gal to do (besides paper crafts!)? Bake of course!!

I thought it would be fun to share some of my most cherished recipes with you! Some are family recipes, and some are just random recipes I have gathered over the years. I will post a different one everyday this month, so get your index cards ready! I have tried all of them, and can assure you that they are fabulous!

Cozy, warm, and comforting!

Best Ever Banana Bread

(from the kitchen of my Aunt Patti Wilkinson)

makes 2 loaves

ingredients:

3/4 c. shortening

1-1/2 c. sugar

3 eggs

3/4 c. milk

2 c. mashed bananas (4-6) -six is best!

2Tbsp. lemon juice

3 tsp. baking powder

1 tsp. salt

1 tsp. baking soda

3-1/2 c. flour

1/2 c. chopped walnuts or pecans

instructions:

Mash bananas and lemon juice, set aside. Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs and beat thoroughly until very light and fluffy. Add dry ingredients alternately with milk, beat after each addition; fold in bananas and nuts. Pour into 2 greased loaf pans. Bake at 350F for about 1 hour. Cool in pans 10 minutes, then remove and cool on wire rack.

I love that this recipe makes 2 loaves of bread! We eat one, and freeze the other! It's wonderful for breakfast too!

Okay, I've got another sweet recipe for you today as well! I made these cookies for Christmas last year, and they were a big hit! It is my Aunt Dianna's recipe! Enjoy!

Coconut Butter Cookies

1 cup sugar

1 cup butter

2 cups flour

1-1/2 tsp baking soda

1 cup coconut

Cream together butter and sugar until fluffy. Add coconut. Sift in flour and soda. Form 3/4 inch balls, press down slightly on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 10 minutes at 325F - Do Not Brown!

You could add 1/2 tsp dried grated orange peel for a different flavor, or try dipping half of cookie in melted chocolate for a more festive cookie.

Easy and good! That's my favorite kind of recipe! :)

Apple-Raspberry Crumb Pie Recipe

Happy Black Friday! I hope those of you who braved the crowds made it through safely!! LOL! Not me. I stayed home with my family, and have been munching out on turkey leftovers and pie! :)

Speaking of pie, here is the recipe for the one I made this holiday. It was new to me, and absolutely wonderful! You'd better give it a try, you won't regret it!

Apple-Raspberry Crumb Pie Recipe

(from Betty Crocker's Fall Baking 2007 mini book)

prep time: 15 mins.

start to finish: 1h 35 mins.

ingredients:

1 refrigerated pie crust, softened as directed on box

3 cups thinly sliced peeled cooking apples (3 medium)

1/2 cup sugar

2 tbls all purpose flour

1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

2 cups fresh or frozen (thawed and drained) raspberries

1/2 cup cubed or crumbled pure almond paste (from 7 or 8 oz package)

1/2 cup all purpose flour

1/4 cup sugar

1/4 cup butter or margarine

1/2 cup sliced almonds

directions:

!. Heat oven to 350F. Place pie crust in 9-inch glass pie plate as directed on box for One Crust Filled Pie.

2. In large bowl, stir together apples, 1/2 cup sugar, 2 tbls flour and the cinnamon. Spoon into crust-lined pie plate. Sprinkle with raspberries. Sprinkle almond paste over raspberries.

3. In medium bowl, mix 1/2 cup flour and 1/4 cup sugar. Cut in butter, using pastry blender (or pulling 2 table knives through ingredients in opposite directions), until particles are the size of small peas. Stir in almonds. Sprinkle evenly over almond paste.

4. Place on baking sheet. Bake 1 hour to 1 hour 15 mins, covering edge of crust with foil after about 30 mins, until apples are tender in center and topping is golden brown. Serve warm or cool.

Tip: Look for almond paste near the baking chocolate and nuts.

MY TIPS:

Although the recipe says to slice the apple thinly, my recommendation is not too thinly. And I felt that the amount of apples was too little. I think using 4 medium apples would fill the pie nicer than the three. I baked my pie for 1 hour, and the apples were almost mush. (but still good)

It was so yummy!! I served it with vanilla ice cream, and they were perfect together. My father, father-in-law, and my husband all loved it so much, there is none left to take a picture of! And as everyone said their goodbyes, I got more even compliments on the pie!

What can I say? I have a knack for pie!

Cranberry Freeze Recipe

Warm Winter Greetings!

We live near Spokane, Washington, and we are in the midst of a 'Blizzard Warning' with arctic temperatures this morning. We have accumulated about 4 inches of very dry snow, with wind speeds around 20 mph, and the drifts are piling high! We are in for negative 10 degree temps tonight, with a possible 4 to 8 addition inches of snow. Fun, huh??

Winter is here!!

So, I thought I would pass along a recipe that I just received from my mom! I have not tryed it yet, but it sounds wonderful, yet cold! LOL! Perfect for the Thanksgiving Feast!

Cranberry Freeze

1 (8 oz) can crushed pineapple, in juice

1 (16 oz) can whole cranberry sauce

½ cup chopped pecans (optional)

1 (8 oz) carton fat free sour cream

Instructions:

Drain pineapple.

Mash cranberry sauce well.

Combine all ingredients.

Pour into 9×9 inch baking pan and put in freezer.

Once frozen, cut into squares to serve.

Makes 12 portions, 2×3 inches each

YUM!!

D2D Skating Penguin Challenge Card

Can you believe it's ME??

Hello everyone! I am super happy to be able to create and share a card with you today! I have not been around much, and have not created a single paper craft since World Card Making Day!! YIKES!

So here is what I came up with for the Delightful Inspiration Artist Challenge this week, using the free digi 'Skating Penguin'. So cute!

I was inspired by many of the cards already linked to the challenge, like Kathy Winter's girl penguin, Kristine Breach's white penwork, Kendra Sand's sparkly paints, and someone had used felt snowflakes too, but I cannot remember where I saw them! So if it was you, thanks for the inspiration! :)

I was kinda stumped for a sentiment for this image. The usual 'Warm Winter Greetings' or 'Skating by...' sentiments came to mind, but my inner voice was screaming 'NO! Do something different!' So I stamped the little notebook page, and hand wrote a To Do List of fun snow activities. Then, inside I wrote the sentiment 'We hope your winter is packed with fun!'.

I really wanted to add some sewing, but did not want to run out of time to finish the project, so I added some handstitching around the list. It satisfied my craving for now! :)

This card also qualifies for the Double Delight Challenge this week: to use Snowflakes with the D2D image! Easy!! :)

Hey!!

Yes, it's me! I know it has been a while, but hey, I've been busy!

My job as an in-home care giver has been keeping me on a wonky schedule, and my husband can't seem to stop injuring himself and going to the hospital!

He threw his back out a couple of weeks ago, then when he was on the mend, sprang his ankle. Now that that is healing, he somehow injured his 'private parts'. The crazy thing about that is when he went into the ER yesterday, the female doctor prescribed an antibiotic for a STD!! My husband and I have been together for 10 years now, and I KNOW he has not cheated on me, nor I on him. So we think we need a second opinion! Besides, he was moving our giant dog house when the pain started in his groin. Hhmm....could it be some sort of strain, Doc?? Jeezz!

I am putting in my 2 week notice today. And am looking for a new job, again. I need something with a set schedule, like 7 am to 3 pm everyday. I like the in-home care position, but the days and hours are all over the place. I cannot take care of MY family's needs. Plus, I have to drive an hour to get 3 hours work, then an hour's drive home. Sorry...not for me!! I'd rather be with my kids!

So, otherwise we have all been healthy, and adjusting to Mom being at work. My house is a disaster, and everyone is hungry all the time! As soon as I walk in the house after work, I am bombarded with whining for food, so I throw out crackers and cheese sticks! I can't seem to just sit down, ever. My 'to-do' list just keeps getting longer, with my hubby adding to it daily. I think he is starting to miss my housekeeping talent!

I know we will survive this, our crazy life, and things will smooth out soon. My fingers are crossed!

Today I am going to pig out, take a hot bath, and then tackle some of those to-do's! Or not! We'll see!

I may end up sitting at my stamping station for the better part of the day! Hhmmm....that's the best idea I have had all week! :)

Sweet Stampin' Up! Only Cards

Hey!

Sorry I have been a bad blogger, but I have been busy working! I got a job as an in-home care giver, and I have been working for about a month now. I like it, and it sure feels good to make some money again! It's so empowering! I feel so good!

I made these two cards on World Card Making Day, (I know....almost two weeks ago!) for my vitual Stampin' Up! hostess group. We place our orders with our demo each month, with a set minimum purchase amount, and we all rotate being the hostess each month. That way we can enjoy our SU goodies without having to throw a party each month, and still get hostess bennies! I like it a lot!

I was the hostess in September, and boy do I love my new free stuff!!

Our demo posted a couple of challenges for WCMD, with prizes, so I HAD to join in the fun! :)

The first card challenge was to make a 'Re-Make' card by choosing a card in the current SU catty, and remake it by changing the colors or stamps used, but keeping the layout. I chose the card on page 111, which uses Pacific Point and Old Olive, and the Bluberry Crisp dsp.

I used Rose Red and Pumpkin Pie, and the new Sweet and Sour Specialty dsp for my butterflies. I love that paper! It is beauitful!

I am going to send this card to my baby sister in Dallas, Texas, because she just sent me the prettiest necklace! She's so sweet!

This second card was created for a challenge that required us to use at least two of the new In-Colors, and two current punches. I used Blushing Bride and Pear Pizzazz, the new Decorative Label punch, and a circle punch. Those new glittery brads are so pretty, I am so glad I bought those! (Yes, I spend a lot of money on SU products! I am addicted!!)

I actually won this challenge, and got to pick a new punch from the catty. My choice is the new 2-3/8" Scallop Circle punch! Can't wait to get that!

I have a lot of SU stuff that I have not even used yet! It is sad almost, but I will use it sometime! LOL!! Right??

Okay, that's it for me today! I've got to get off this computer and make some new Designed2Delight creations! The team has been extremely busy while I have been at work! LOTS of catching up to do!

I simply printed the image out twice, colored them with dye ink markers, and cut them out. I diE-cut the tag shapes, added a bit of patterned paper and gold cord, and attached the stockings with dimEnsional dots!

This is my card for the Designed2Delight Artist's Challenge! The first freebie this month is this gorgeous Oak Wreath! I used the current MojoMonday 155 sketch for my inspiration, and love how it turned out! It was super easy and fun!

The Double Delight Challenge this week was Autumn Colors, so that was a breeze! :)

And this image from Faith is gorgeous and so easy to work with! I love Autumn themes!

For the interior of my card, I wanted those two cute acorns to accent the sentiment panel, to bring the outside in. So I printed the 'Oak Wreath' digi out full page sized, and colored and cut them out! It's like getting two digi's free this week!! :) I love them!

So fun! I thought afterwards that I could just use photo editing software to crop the image down to the acorns and save it as an individual digi stamp. Maybe I will do that tomorrow, when I have some play time. You could do that too! :)

Thank you to everyone who has left encouraging comments here for me. I have been in a bit of a slump lately, but feel the load lightening on my shoulders. Every sweet comment made things more bright! You are all so wonderful, and I am glad to know each of you, my online friends!

I managed to use the digital stamp 'Cat's Meow' from Designed2Delight Digital Stamps, which was a freebie, but is now available in the shop HERE.

Here is my take on the sketch:

I colored the digital image with my SU markers, and it turned out alright. I usually watercolor with the inks and an aqua brush, but the water smears the printer ink.

No smears this time ~ woot!

That's my baby...first day of Kindergarten. Look how happy he is! I know he is going to love school!

The house is so quiet. I am at a loss of what I am supposed to do next. It feels so strange to be all alone. I have been close to tears all day. This is definitely going to be harder for me than him!!

What is a small milestone in his life, is a huge, life changing event for me.

I don't have any babies anymore, they are all grown.

And now I've got to figure out what to do with me.

What I've been up to....

Hello!

Thought I'd better add a little note to my blog so you all know I am still alive! I have not been blogging or creating lately, so I wanted to share what's been going on in Sherrie's world.

(It reads like a 'Dear Diary' entry...so beware!)

First of all, we are in a transition back to school. My youngest starts Kindergarten tomorrow, and I have been getting things ready, ie: school supplies, clothing, practicing getting up early, eating breakfast and getting dressed quickly. Also practicing our phone number and address, and such.

I am an emotional mess, which I really should not be. I have sent my two others off to kindergarten already, and even have one who graduated high school, so this should be a breeze. But no, it makes me sad.

Also, since my son is going to school now, I have to get a JOB.

I have been driving around north Spokane, trying to find someone who is willing to hire a gal with no references, no job history for the last 6 years, and no specialized training of any kind.

It is not easy. There are no jobs, and if there are, they are part time, minimum wage, no benefits, and going fast.

My husband has his own ideals of what jobs I should be looking for/applying to, and they do not exist. He wants full time, more than minimum wage, benefits, NO CRAFTS! And YESTERDAY.

So we did have a bout of WW III the other day over these issues, and it was awful. I hate fighting with my husband. It drains me for several days afterward. He is not being very encouraging, helpful, or even nice about it. And it is not helping my confidence or motivation level either.

So today, I am filling out more applications online, and keeping my fingers crossed for anything.

My garden is in full swing, and I have lots to do. Blackberry Jam, blanching and freezing green beans and carrots, weeding, watering, and fertilizing.

Maybe tomorrow.

We are so broke, and so we have been going up in the woods gathering firewood to sell on the weekends. It is hard work, dirty and scary for me. I don't like it, and my husband gets upset with me when I am nervous about driving near the edges of the embankments, or when we are pulling the logs out of the woods. I try to keep my mouth shut and hang on tight, while my heart is racing and I just can't breathe!

But until I get a job, I have to help "to do my part for the family'.

Boo.

I am WAY BEHIND on my Designed2Delight Design Team responsibilities. I have not made any cards lately, and My Mojo is in temporary hiatus. I feel terrible about it. I have half a dozen images printed out, and displayed on my desk. Every time I walk past them, I feel sad that I cannot sit down long enough to create something.

Maybe tomorrow.

I used to work full time, was a single mom to 2 kids, and kept a clean house. Now, I am not sure how I did it! I just can't figure out how it is supposed to work. Our circumstances have changed dramatically in the last 7 years, making these things much more challenging. I may have to settle for a part time job, just for the reference and foot in the door, and my husband is going to be the one who has to suck it up! (feels good to say THAT!)

With all that said, and it feels good to say it, I am trying to keep my chin up. I have been through MUCH harder times in my life, and I am still functioning. So I know I can do this. I just wish my husband knew it too.

Butterfly Thinking of You Notecard Set

Happy Thursday to you!

As you read this, I am lying in the dentist chair for a check up on my Periodontal disease. It's all good, and should end well. I have been flossing every day and brushing like a maniac! The hygienist should be impressed! Six weeks ago I had all of my teeth deep cleaned, which really was awful, and now they are feeling great. So I hope my gums are healthier now than then.

Today is the day I find out. Fingers are crossed!

Yesterday I shared a card similar to this set of note cards. I am loving this border of butterflies, and couldn't help but go with the flow of the mojo!

How about those shiny beauties, huh? I am telling ya, fun and pretty!

Everything is mostly Stampin' Up!, but the buttons are from Papertrey Ink and the sentiment is Hero Arts.

I am definitely a hoarder, because I could make these cards in any color available from Stampin' Up! and Papertrey Ink!! I really need to use this stuff up! :)

We officially have two weeks until school starts!!

Hip hip hooray!!

Let the countdown begin! Woot!!

Am I the only one who's ever felt this way? I think not!

Today's card was inspired by THIS set of notecards, I had created for a color challenge. I fell in love with the row of butterflies, and wanted to try different color combo's with them. I actually have three more sets of notecards to share, very similar to this card, later! :)

Everything you see here is from Stampin' Up!. I did not mean to make a SUO card, it just happened that way!

I love the Raspberry Tart dsp so much - I stocked up! :)

A clean and simple interior! Super fun and feminine!

I counted all of the butterflies I stamped, heat embossed, and cut out this weekend...it adds up to 41! Wait and see......! I was on a creative streak!

Designed2Delight Artist's Challenge - August {#2}

Hello!

I have another creation for the Designed2Delight Artist's Challenge today. If you participated last week, you would have received this image, 'Happy Harvest', free, if not you can pick it up at Faith's digi shop HERE, and then post your creation to her blog before Thursday, midnight EST. Then you will get next week's freebie in your inbox Friday morning automatically! It's a sweet deal!

Here is my creation:

Yes, I know it is not Clean and Simple! I just can't do it! LOL!

This time I created a mask for my image by printing out a second image, cutting it out, and gently adhering it over my main image. I stamped over the mask with my PTI Text Style II stamp, and then stippled around it with More Mustard. Then I unmasked it, watercolored the scene with SU inks and an aqua brush, sewed around the panel, and then added clear embossing to the pumpkins and wheat sprigs.
Please note that you should sew before doing the embossing. On my first attempt, I did the heat embossing, and then tried to sew, but the presser foot on the machine would drag against the raised, slick shine, and my stitches tore throught the cardstock. It was AWEFUL!! So I had to start over! Boo-hiss!

The second issue I had, and most frustrating, was when I adhered the background patterned paper to the mat of Moss cs.
I was out of runner adhesive, and so was the store when I went to buy some. So I bought a tube of ELMER'S (so called) Papercraft and CardMaking Glue for $2. It was in the papercrafting glue and adhesive aisle after all! And, it's Elmer's....who make glue.....right??
Wrong! It warps the paper!! DO NOT BUY IT!! It is a waste of money!!
Another BOO-HISS!!
So, once again, I had to start over! I used some 2-way glue, and bam...perfectly flat and beautiful!
Glue is super important when creating handmade paperarts. It has to dry fairly quickly, clearly, and most importantly FLAT. Elmer's needs to catch up with the times! We are not in Kindergarten!

Pal's Paper Arts Challenge 55 {Color}

Good morning!

Jumping in with a notecard I made for the Pal's Paper Art's Challenge #55.

This time it is a color challenge with Tempting Turquoise, Melon Mambo, and Daffodil Delight.

Great colors! Here is what I created........

I stamped the butterfly several times with Versamark, and embossed them with clear ep before cutting them out.

I used the last strand of Melon Mambo ribbon in my stash, so I sure hope SU! will come out with more of it! Maybe satin?!

Any Occasion Butterfly Card

How is everyone? We are doing very well, and are plugging away at life! :)

I have a pretty card to share with all of you today! It uses one of my favorite SU stamp sets ever - Great Friend. I have made many of these butterfly cards, in many color combo's too. It is a fun card to create and I try to make them slightly different each time!

This one uses Chocolate Chip, Groovy Guava, Kraft (or Crumb Cake), and White.

I stamped my Canvas background stamp in Close to Cocoa on the Kraft background panel to add interest and texture. It looks fab!

Inside, I added a nice Kraft sentiment panel with stitching, and another butterfly and flower! Nice and easy!

Yes, your fingers may get sore from cutting out all those shapes with your snips! Be fair-warned! LOL!

Happy Thursday!

I wanted to share another card I made while I had the house all to myself yesterday!! Woot!

I received some new SU supplies recently, and this wonderful stuff was in the box! I am so glad I used them! :)

The paper is the Greenhouse Gala dsp, and the stamps are called Friends Never Fade. Love them!!

After stamping the main image in Chocolate Chip, I stamped it again with Versamark on Baja Breeze cardstock, and heat embossed it with clear powder. I cut out the flower and popped it up with a foam dot on the brown panel. Perfect!

I added ruffled Choc Chip satin ribbon and some sweet pearls to finish things off.

Here is a look inside. I added a strip of the gorgeous paper to coordinate with the card front.

LOVE this paper and stamp set!! Yes, I already said that!

An Autumn Card for the Color Throwdown {105}

Hey there stampers!

I have the whole day to myself, and of course, I am spending it creating!

Todays card fits in two challenges,

The Color Throwdown #105

and

Splitcoast Stampers Sketch Challenge 293

Todays colors were: Always Artichoke, Elegant Eggplant, and Soft Suede. I was not sure about them at first, but now I really love this combo!

I watercolored the PTI image with SU inks and an aqua brush, on a piece of vintage looking Basic Grey Boxer paper. It worked out better than I thought it would, as the paper did not fall apart! :)

I created the text patterned paper by stamping the PTI Text Style stamp with Artichoke on Vanilla paper, then distressed it with Chamomile Tea Dye ink.

I finished the inside with more of the fantastic Boxer paper, and some more sewing.

This was my first Autumn card of the season, and I'll tell you I am ready to make more! The colors call my name every year! I love Fall!

Hello again!

Today I thought I'd share some family photos with everyone! We have been having a lot of fun this summer and one new thing we learned to do was surf! Not on the ocean waves, but behind a boat!

July 24 & 25, 2010

This first picture is my oldest son Josh, almost 19 years old!

Here is my hubby Kevin, 30 years old, getting ready to go!

You can see in this next picture how close to the boat you are when you 'surf'. The goal is to let go of the rope, and ride the wake as if you are on an ocean wave! Cool, huh?

It's not as easy as it looks at first!

But once you get comfortable and let go of that rope, it is smooth sailing!

The boat only goes about 18 mph., but it feels a little faster than that!

Down goes Kevin!!

Josh caught on like a natural! He was smiling ear to ear the entire time!

Look mom, no rope!!

Even after he wiped out...many times!

We had so much fun! We swam, surfed and wakeboarded all day, until it was too dark to see!

This last picture of Josh was taken as the sun was going down. Doesn't the water look beautiful?

We stayed the night at our friend, Shane's lake cabin, sat by a bon fire all night, and in the morning he made us breakfast and took us out surfing again! He is an awesome guy!!

I can't wait to go again!

I hope everyone is having as much fun as possible this summer!!

Crafter's Digital Art Center Embellishment Challenge: Handmade

Hello everybody! Glad to see you here!

Crafter's Digital Art Center has asked Designed2Delight Digital Stamps to host the latest Embellishment Challenge, and of course, Faith said YES! She created the most beautiful digital stamp to share, called 'Cup of Posies', and decided that we should all make handmade embellishments for our creations! It doesn't get any sweeter than that, does it?

I decided to try my hand at making pretty rolled ribbon flower/roses to compliment the swirly centers of the posies in the digi. You can make them out of many materials like felt, fabric strips, and even paper. Rickrack seems to add a special touch to these flowers as well. They are super easy to do and take only moments to create! Let me show you!

You will need:

a pre-threaded sewing needle

ribbon, felt or fabric strips (I used 3/8 inch grosgrain)

scissors

mini glue dots

Start by folding about 1" of the ribbon end down to create a 'tail'.

Begin rolling the ribbon into a tight spiral, twisting and folding the ribbon outward, or away from you as you go.

After 3 or 4 turns, begin to loosen the ribbon twists to create fuller 'petals'. Be sure to keep a firm, steady grip on the spiral.

When you have reached the desired size, carefully trim ribbon end leaving another little tail.

Carefully turn the flower over and stitch through the layers, trying to capture as many as you can, especially the first and last ribbon 'tails'. Make 2 or 3 stitches through the flower, as though you are sewing on a 4-holed button, until you are confident it will not unravel.

Tie thread, and snip ribbon and thread ends closely to the back of the flower.

Here is the finished backside of the flower. Looks a bit messy!

But here is the top. Sweet!

You may have to fluff or flatten the flower just a bit when you are through sewing.

Just like real flowers...no two will be alike!

Use mini glue dots to adhere the flowers to your cards and layouts.

Here is the card I created using the 'Cup of Posies' digi and my pretty handmade flowers!

I printed the image out three times, once on Lovely Lilac cardstock and twice on watercolor paper.

After watercoloring the images, I added a layer of clear embossing, cut them out, and popped up the flowers and ladybug with foam dots.

I stamped SU's Canvas background over the Lilac image with White craft ink, and adhered the colored cup of posies on top.

No card is complete without a finished interior!

Here I added layers of the patterned paper and cardstocks, and stitched around them leaving a nice area for personal thoughts and blessings!

Hey!

Thought I'd drop in with a card I had made before Mother's Day, which I actually changed a bit recently.

The butterflies were added in place of the large letters M O M, as shown below.

A customer of mine wanted an any occasion card, and suggested to me that this card would look lovely with butterflies in place of the letters.

I think she was right! :)

D2D July Artist's Challenge {#2} Vino

Okay!

I finally finished my entry for the Designed2Delight Artist's Challenge this week!

I had a serious issue with choosing a color combo for this image, as many of you read in the D2D group at Crafter's Digital Art Center. (so funny!) So, this morning I was reading through everyones comments there, and scoping out what everyone else had come up with, and my eye happened to catch the discussion 'Delightful Color Inspiration' and I remembered that I had not made a card to participate in that yet!! And thank goodness there was no deadline, right? So bam, got my colors.

The whole time I was painting this image, the country song 'Toes in the Water' was playing in my head. I do not know the name of the singer, but I love that song, so I thought 'Life is good today' was an appropriate sentiment to add to my card. I typed it out on the computer here, and added it to my card front!

Oh, and did I mention that I used embossing, there on the card? That is for the Double Delight Challenge! Fun, fun!

Simple Stem and Thank You Notecards {Day 2}

Hey, it's me again!

Yesterday I showed you a totally feminine set of notecards using this digital stamp called 'Simple Stem and Thank You' from Designed2Delight. So today I thought I'd show you a set that is slightly masculine!

I was able to change the color of the digital stamp from black to this gorgeous olive color using free online photo editing software. Let me tell you that I tried every color option and cannot wait to make more cards using blue, brown, or red! So fun!

I printed the digi out on watercolor paper 3 times for this set. The edges were distressed with tea dye inks, and then matted onto awesome papers and cardstock. I punched a little hole in each panel, pulled the velvety black ribbon through, and tied a bit of twine to the ends to secure. The black brads were a finishing touch, as I adhered everything to the black cardstock bases.

Again, a clean and simple interior for personal thoughts and sentiments.

I love that this set of cards could be sent to a guy! It is so hard to find or create manly cards! I showed this set to all of my guys, and they thought they were awesome, and would absolutely enjoy being the recipient of one of them! :)

Designed2Delight Simple Stem and Thank You Notecard Set

Hey there everybody!

Just stopping by today with a little notecard set I made using one of Faith's Dollar Delights called 'Simple Stem and Thank You'. Can you believe it is only $1? And you get two for less than the price of one! Wow, what a deal!!

For this set of cards, I changed the digital stamp from black to a beautiful orange using the free online software from Pixlr.com, which is so easy to use and amazingly fun! (Thank you Kathy!!)

I printed the image out on Very Vanilla cardstock 6 times, 3 of which I stamped over with SU's Canvas background stamp with Groovy Guava ink, and the other three I cut out the blossoms to pop up on top.

I added layers of cardstock and patterned papers, and created a sweet bow with gorgeous satin ribbon. I love how that turned out, it added so much femininity to the cards.

I kept the inside clean and simple so there would be plenty of room for personal sentiments! I just cannot create a card without decorating the inside as well. :)

There you have it, a fairly simple set of pretty notecards! I hope you enjoyed them!

Designed2Delight July Artist's Challenge {#1}

Hey there everybody!!

How is your summer heating up? We finally hit 85 degrees today, and it feels great! We ate lunch at the park, and my boys swam in the creek while I soaked up some rays! Fun!

Here is my card for the Delightful Inspiration Artist's Challenge, and the new Double Delight Challenge as well!

If you can believe it, it only took me a half an hour to make this little card! That is a record for me, as I am a very slow stamper!

I printed the 'Wish Big' digital stamp twice, colored and cut out the letters and the scalloped circle, and pieced them together on a patterned paper circle. I added my topper over a bit of striped patterned paper, and added a big red ribbon! Awesome!

I am going to send this card to my niece, Hailey. It will be her 4th birthday next Wednesday! I think she will like it! She loves to color and draw, so I am also sending her lots of paper craft goodies!! :) WOOT! She's taking after Aunt Sherrie!!

Stitched Flower Notecards with D2D digital stamp!

Okay, first of all, a HUGE apology to Faith and the D2D Creative Team for my blog post absence on Friday! I wish I could have known it was a no-show so I could have fixed it and been a part of all the fun! And wow, did I miss out! Everyone's creations were fantastic! I hopped along the blogs and enjoyed all the creative and colorful cards! I am VERY sorry that I missed out!

So, to make up for it, I am posting a second project I created before my 4th of July camp out, and it uses the new digi 'Stitched Bloom' from Designed2Delight Digital Stamps!

I printed the digi out twice, once on watercolor paper, and secondly on the blue patterned paper. I cut out the white flowers and leaves, colored them and adhered them over the blue layer. They look so bright and cheery, huh? I added a touch of sewing, a second layer of pretty red floral paper, and bam....done.

Easy little notecards!

The gorgeous digital stamp I am showcasing for you is called 'Hand Picked'. It is available in Faith Skrdla's Designed2Delight Digital Stamp Shop today!

The stitched frame really draws your attention to the beautiful flower, I just love it!

For this project, I printed the image twice on watercolor paper, and once on Kraft cardstock for the base layer.

I cut the Kraft colored image by hand, added highlighting with a stipple brush, and ran it through my cuttlebug with a corrugated cardboard folder. I watercolored the white images with dye inks and my aqua brush, cut them out, and adhered them together using mini glue dots. Lots of dimension and texture!

Decorating the inside of the card is also fun, and this one mirrors the card front with pretty papers and sewing!

Hey there!

I created this cute birthday card several days ago, and thought I should share it today!

I just received the set 'Sweet Scoops' from Stampin' Up!, and boy do I love it!!

I stamped the cones with Versamark ink onto Kraft cardstock, and heat embossed them with clear powder and cut them out. The ice cream scoops were stamped on Whisper white cardstock with the classic inks, and then I stamped the texture stamp over them, heat embossed, and cut them out. For the vanilla scoop, I stamped a pink scoop then flipped it over and heat embossed the back. After I cut around the pink side, I had a vanilla on the reverse. (hope that made sense!)

Lot's of fun goodies on this card!!

Here is the interior, all dressed up! I really like the Argyle Pretty in Pink paper, don't you? (happy sigh)

Last night we had dinner at a local burger joint, and had wonderful ice cream cones for dessert! Mine was chocolate/vanilla swirl, and it hit the spot! It was a hot day yesterday, and we had spent it at the park swimming and picnicing. It was a great day!

Today I sat in the dentist chair for two exhausting hours! YUK! No fun!

Take my advise and FLOSS people, FLOSS! It's the key to good oral health for sure!!

Good morning!

SSHH!! Everyone is still in bed here at the Conner home, so I am sneaking around with my coffee and getting ready to do some stamping! :) I love it when I can find some quiet time to create, with no one shouting 'MOM' every minute!! Right??

This set of little note cards came into existance quite accidentally. I had cut strips of the Lemon Tart cardstock to die cut the shape for another project, and the frames that were left over inspired this project. Love it when it works out that way!

I stamped the text background on the frames with Chocolate chip ink, and stitched the fabulous buttons on with twine. The I stamped the doodle frame and sentiment on Whisper White cardstock, with Groovy Guava and Choc Chip inks, added the flower stamp, and positioned the cardstock frame over the image and adhered with foam dots. Then I trimmed away any excess white cardstock, and adhered the panel to the Friends Till the End Dark Chocolate patterned paper.

I die-cut the large scallops from a sheet of Melon Berry cardstock, and attached them to the panel, then adhered the whole thing to the Kraft card base.

This was a great project, and I am sure I will make more cards with this window effect in the future. It was so much fun, and pretty easy too!

Designed2Delight Artist's Challenge {Week 3}

Here I am with another contribution to the Designed2Delight Artist's Challenge! This week the digital stamp freebie 'Tweet Friend' included sentiments! I was so happy about that! :)

Now, before you go criticizing my coloring of the image, please hear me out......

I printed the image out on watercolor paper, as I always do, BUT I forgot to heat set the ink, as I should do. So I sat down with aqua painter in hand, ink tray at the ready, and just set to painting. First thing that happens is a huge SMEAR! {GRRR} Then the realization that I forgot the heat gun! Then a curse word!

But then I thought 'Gee Sherrie, that looks kinda cool, huh.' And I just went with it, and painted OUTSIDE THE LINES! I just let it flow. I tried not to get too carried away, and actually erased ink here and there with a paper towel, and then added brighter highlights in the end.

To tone it down a bit, I added a lot of sewing to the background papers and the image itself. To distract the eye...so to speak!! LOL! That bird is pretty bright! I utilized the blue sky as the inspiration for the background papers.

This card also uses the latest MOJOMonday sketch challenge, but rather loosely.

I added more sewing and pretty papers inside the card as well!
